Experts examined 20,042 individuals with fatty liver and found a significantly higher prevalence of pulmonary nodules compared to the general population. Male gender, older age, lower body weight, and lower diastolic blood pressure were identified as independent risk factors for the development of pulmonary nodules in patients with fatty liver. These findings underscore the importance of considering pulmonary nodules in this population.

The association b/w infertility, assisted reproduction & cervical insufficiency (CI) was assessed among 2,662 women. Infertility increased CI risk in pregnancies with fertility treatments & no miscarriage history. No association was found b/w fertility treatments & CI in women with miscarriage history. Results help refine CI risk assessment for fertility treatment recipients. Risk assessment can be tailored for women on fertility treatments.

In this study of 6000 acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients, women received less aggressive care than men, with longer delays in seeking treatment and lower rates of coronary angiography and PCI, despite similar anatomical suitability. Women experienced higher in-hospital mortality, major adverse cardiac events, and long-term mortality. These findings highlight persistent gender disparities in ACS management.

The clinical outcomes of the high tibial osteotomy (HTO) vs the proximal fibular osteotomy (PFO) operation were compared using systematic reviews of 23 studies. As per result, PFO and HTO are equally effective in the short run for treating KOA, but PFO has the advantage of reducing the length of the procedure, intraoperative bleeding, hospital stay, and postoperative complications. Therefore, PFO can be preferred.

Researchers developed and validated a risk nomogram for predicting diabetic retinopathy (DR) in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients. Using data from 2,585 patients, key predictors like glycated hemoglobin A1c, serum urea, and diabetes duration were identified. The nomogram demonstrated good discriminatory power. The model shows promise for early intervention, though further external validation is needed.

Experts investigated associations between specific pregnancy complications & maternal mortality within a year post-childbirth among 1,237,254 mothers. Pregnancy complications in the most recent pregnancy (placental abruption, preeclampsia, preterm birth, perinatal death & gestational hypertension) increased maternal mortality risk. Risk escalated with multiple complications in recent pregnancies, emphasizing the need for close monitoring.

The recent AHA scientific statement suggests using proper BP measurement techniques with recently calibrated devices & emphasizes detecting & correcting reversible causes of elevated BP. For asymptomatic elevated BP in the ED, intensifying hypertension medications should be avoided. Immediate treatment with parenteral meds is advised for hypertensive emergencies. The use of IV antihypertensives is not supported without hypertensive emergencies.

A study investigated whether bedtime snacks prevent high fasting glucose in 62 women with GDM. Over 8 weeks, no significant difference in fasting glucose levels or hyperglycemia incidence was observed between the snack and no-snack groups. However, LDL cholesterol and 1-hour postprandial glucose were higher in the snack group. The study suggests bedtime snacking does not improve glycemic control in GDM and may negatively affect lipid markers.

Researchers analyzed the neurological impact of mild SARS-CoV-2 infection using EEG data from 185 participants & 181 questionnaires. Mild cognitive decline & increased low-frequency EEG activity were recorded across all age groups, however, children and adolescents experienced milder effects. Results indicated enduring cognitive impacts, possibly contributing to anxiety, insomnia & neurodevelopmental issues.
